Very many thanks for showing an interest in joining our next Course to become an active referee

Arrangements have been made to commence on Monday 6th September 2010 and run on each Monday through to the dead easy tick-box exam night on 25th October.

All sessions are 7.15pm to 9.30pm on our BIG screen except for one evening when we are out on a playing area.

The venue is LAIRD’S SPORTS CLUB, end of PROCTER ROAD, ROCK FERRY, upstairs in The Windsor Lounge - CH42 1PY for those with a Sat Nav.

The attached application form should be completed and posted to me along with your fee, which is set by The Football Association. A breakdown of the cost elements is shown on the attached sheet issued by Cheshire County FA. You will be given a free copy of the FA’s latest booklet on the Laws of the Game for season 2010-11 and there are lots of other helpful booklets which can be accessed via The FA’s website. £15 of your fee is the current season’s registration as an active referee BUT before you can be officially registered you MUST REFEREE SIX 11 a-side COMPETITIVE games. You can soon claw back the cost of this course by refereeing these six games – and more! A good quality, full referee’s kit costs around £35 to buy from the Referees’ Association through Norman Grundy, whom you will see at the taking of the Attendance Register each week.

FA Licensed Referee Instructors, Joe Copeland (former Premier League Assistant Referee), Bernard Smith and Neil Davies together with local referees Norman Grundy and Brian Cooke help me over the eight sessions and we all ensure that you are made very welcome. We always have a laugh without forgetting that our main aim is to produce a decent referee out of you. We don’t just teach you the written laws because you can read them for yourself – we concentrate on practically showing you how to be comfortable and confident as a referee.

See you on 6th September then? Please bring pen and paper and arrive around 6.45pm on the first night to assist with the registration arrangements. Dress code is smart casual but if you wish to come along in your favourite team’s colours then please do so as it will help to brighten up the atmosphere. There is always a football video on show for those who get there early. You are welcome to bring along your own drink although these are available for purchase at the downstairs dispenser – have a £1 coin ready.

Best Wishes and thanks again for your interest. I do hope you will join us and not be put off by the initial cost, which is out of our hands. It is necessary to have clearance under the Safeguarding Children in Football banner and, for those 18 and over, the Criminal Records Bureau check, but these requirements are understandable protections for everyone involved in our game. Only a current clearance under The FA’s list can be accepted and not for any other discipline sorry.
