December RA Meeting

A very impressive turnout was seen at the December RA meeting. An encouraging end to 2011 and even more encouraging start to 2012 as we see our numbers increase.

Ron Mathews was asked to raise a concern from local leagues regarding the time that officials are arriving prior to games. Some officials have been arriving upto 5 minutes before kick off. Officials are asked that they abide by league rules which usually ask officials to arrive at least 30 mins prior to kick off. This is increasingly important as we reach the period of the season where the pitch may not be playable.

Pete Gibbons gave a presentation on his progression from a Level 7 referee to Level 3 referee and offered an insight into how refereeing changes through the levels.

We also held our Christmas Quiz which saw a close run final round leading to Graham Kearney and his crew winning the case of lager.

Wirral RA would like to wish all its members and followers a Very Happy Christmas and Successful 2012

RA Meeting This Week

This Thursday is our last meeting of 2011 so let’s make it a good one!!!

Peter Gibbons will be at the helm this week presenting on ‘the next step’. A must attend for all the referees with an eye on promotion! Pete will be giving us the benefit of his experience of rising through the ranks which I am sure will be insightful and entertaining! Following that, our Chairman will be hosting a Christmas quiz which after the Spice Boys were toppled from being Quiz Champions last time around is certain to be entertaining! We will also be welcoming some of our new members so it will be a good opportunity for Mentors and Mentees to get together before the festive break. Please come down and show your support for Pete and the gang.

If anybody hasn’t got a game this coming Saturday and would like one, a former colleague of mine (Andy Holden) from Kirwans solicitors is holding a charity match in aid of C.A.L.M. The game will take place on 10
th December 2011 at Pensby Sports College – 12.30pm kick off. It’s Anderson FC v Shaftesbury Youth B. The game will be played on the all-weather 11-a-side rubber crumb pitch. Andy is happy to sort the usual match fees with any referee who is able to officiate and help him out. Please contact Andy directly on 07842 87 44 42.

Thursday 12
th January 2012 will see the first Wirral RA meeting of the new year. Dave Welch will be delivering the new Mentoring course in conjunction with the usual RA meeting so please save the date and show your support for Rob Johnson and John Davies as they try and enhance the development of our colleagues with the new Mentoring initiative.

Finally, thank you for your support this year. A special thanks to Jack Blakemore for his endless efforts this year in keeping us informed and entertained at the RA meetings, it is greatly appreciated. As usual, if you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to give me a call.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and prosperous 2012! See you all on Thursday!
