Big Attendance to see Mike Dean

An attendance of 40 members were present at the March RA meeting.

Wirral RA’s own Mike Dean was our guest and talked about his games, both, Premier League and European Appointments. The audience listening intently as he talked about his rise from a West Cheshire League assistant referee in 1998 to today, where he is a member of the PGMO Select Group.

Video clips from the feisty Tyneside derby where shown. A game in which he received many compliments about his handling.

Ian Davies was also present, offering items from the RA Shop and he seemed to do good business throughout the night.

With a good attendance such as last night, we will be further able to invite other ‘High profile’ guests to attend and talk to us. Talking to a dozen or so will not bring them back. Spread the word about the RA and tell people what they are missing out on !

Head Injury ! Stop Play

Mill Lane Walk In 05.03.2012.1

This picture, courtesy of Jack Blakemore, shows 2 local footballers at their local walk in centre after clash of heads during a 5-a-side game.

Remember, any head injury during a game should be dealt with immediately and the game stopped.

Any blood injury MUST be assessed prior to the player returning to play. Any shirt, shorts or socks contaminated with blood MUST be changed prior to the player returning to the game.

Restarting play would be a drop ball at the point where you stopped play.

March RA Meeting

Dear All

Busy month this one and memberships are now being accepted for next season! The current season ends on the 31
st March 2012 and I have attached the revised membership form for next season. Please bring a completed form with you this Thursday!

Thursday 8
th March 2012 sees the first meeting of the new marking season. Usual time and place, 7.45pm Cammell Lairds Sports and Social. You will see from the attached that there is some correspondence to get through. We also hope to review some of this weekend’s Premier League action including some incidents from Mike Dean’s game, the Tyne Wear derby! Ian Davies from Cheshire RA will hopefully also be present with some RA supplies of polo shirts, tracksuits and other bits and pieces that we don’t normally carry. In the meantime if you require any supplies, please speak to Norman Grundy.

We are always looking for training topics, suggestions for presentations and volunteers so if you have any suggestions, please let me know. I know Rob Jones has kindly volunteered to present a session to us in the not too distant future on his experiences in the football league and witnessing the return of Carlos Tevez at Carrington.

You will find some interesting reading attached including the February news digest and details for the Annual Conference which I will go through on Thursday.

The new RA website is up and running and worth a look
www.refereesassociation.co.uk. If you have any feedback on it please let me know as the RA are asking for members’ views.

West Cheshire refs – don’t forget the seminar at Vauxhalls on Monday 26
th March.

Finally, good luck to those who have semi-final and final appointments coming up and those colleagues seeking promotion!!!

As always, if you have any problems or queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes
