Pasted Graphic
Fred Singleton of Heswall AFC has been awarded with an Adult National Football Workforce Award.

Fred was awarded as the Wirral Open-age Volunteer winner for his contribution to grassroots football within the district. From the District FA Nominations the County then selected the overall county winner. Fred was further awarded the County Open-aged Volunteer award from the nine districts, for which he was submitted to The FA for the Regional and National awards.

Fred was chosen as the County winner for the exceptional contribution he has made to the Club, with his tireless efforts greatly appreciated and valued by all involved with Heswall AFC in his eight years with the Club. He attends the Clubhouse every day and is involved in pitch maintenance, washes the kit, hangs out kit on match days, and completes other jobs around the Clubhouse and ground. Heswall Football Club is very grateful for his massive contribution.

Chief Executive Maureen Dunford said: “We are delighted to recognise the work which has been done by these very special volunteers. Football at grassroots would not exist without volunteers, who are the lifeblood of the game. I know the many, many hours that people dedicate to football and the County FA really does appreciate their contribution. ”

The Award ceremony will take place at The Community Shield, sponsored by McDonald's.

New Recruits In Cheshire FA Refereeing Department

With the resignation of Mr Jeff Walton from the role of Honorary Referee Appointments Officer, Cheshire County are pleased to announce that the vacancy will be filled by Mr Peter Maddocks of Crewe.
Peter has for many years been the District Referee Secretary for Crewe DFA and brings many years of refereeing experience to the role. Peter stated that he was looking forward to the ‘New’ role and working with all at CCFA.

Mr David Welch also decided at the end of last season to call it a day as the Assessor Co-ordinator for the Supply Leagues within Cheshire. David gave many, many years of dedication and hard work to the role and Cheshire FA would like to go on file and offer our heart felt thanks to David for the professional way in which he carried out his duties. David will continue to co-ordinate the assessment scheme for referees who are applying for promotion with Cheshire County FA.

The ‘New’ recruit to take over from David as Supply League Assessor Co-ordinator is Mr Jack Blakemore of Wirral. Jack brings many years of experience into what Jack says will be an ‘enjoyable challenge’.

All at Cheshire County FA would like to thank both Peter and Jack for ‘Stepping into the breach’ and wish them both every success in their ‘New’ roles.

Procedure to Follow If Threatened / Assaulted During A Game

This guide has been put together by another Society and provides some information on the steps to be taken in the unlikely event something of this nature taking place...

The following procedure is to be followed, by active Referees, in the event of a physical assault, that is, any blow, shoulder charge, kick or similar severe attack upon a Referee or Assistant Referees

1. The Referee shall insist that the Police be summoned immediately.

2. If able, the Referee shall ascertain the names and addresses of witnesses to the assault.

3. If able, the Referee should take sufficient note of the assailant to enable later identification.
N.B. Where Assistants are appointed, they may make important contributions to points 2& 3.

4. Where the assault occurs during a match and the Referee is injured or sufficiently shaken as to be unable to complete the match, it shall be abandoned. The match is NOT to be completed by a substitute Referee.

5. Where possible, the Referee shall await the arrival of Police and provide information in an endeavour to ensure that the assault is dealt with as a Police matter.

6. As soon as possible after the incident, the Referee shall contact the Association Secretary, or, if uncontactable, a Senior Association Official.

7. The Referee shall submit a Report to the competition secretary and County FA. This procedure shall be mandatory in the event of a serious assault. Lesser assaults, for example, a blow which did not connect, a Referee being manhandled, grabbed or having hands placed upon him/her, shall be dealt with by the individual Referee, as he/she chooses. The County FA must be informed of such incidents and reports submitted even if the actions take place off the field of play or following the completion of a game.

Regrettably, assaults on Referees in our district, whilst isolated, are by no means unheard of. It is imperative that Referees assist in protecting each other by adhering to this procedure.
