Heswall Groundsman Wins National Award

Fred Singleton of Heswall AFC has been awarded with an Adult National Football Workforce Award.

Fred was awarded as the Wirral Open-age Volunteer winner for his contribution to grassroots football within the district. From the District FA Nominations the County then selected the overall county winner. Fred was further awarded the County Open-aged Volunteer award from the nine districts, for which he was submitted to The FA for the Regional and National awards.

Fred was chosen as the County winner for the exceptional contribution he has made to the Club, with his tireless efforts greatly appreciated and valued by all involved with Heswall AFC in his eight years with the Club. He attends the Clubhouse every day and is involved in pitch maintenance, washes the kit, hangs out kit on match days, and completes other jobs around the Clubhouse and ground. Heswall Football Club is very grateful for his massive contribution.

Chief Executive Maureen Dunford said: “We are delighted to recognise the work which has been done by these very special volunteers. Football at grassroots would not exist without volunteers, who are the lifeblood of the game. I know the many, many hours that people dedicate to football and the County FA really does appreciate their contribution. ”

The Award ceremony will take place at The Community Shield, sponsored by McDonald's.
